Dish LATINO

The United States is a melting pot of all types of ethnicities and nationalities. I was surprised to notice that you can find almost every nationality in such major cities as New York, Los Angeles, or Washington D.C.

The largest group of immigrants are the Hispanics without a doubt. Would it make sense for them to reside in the United States without having television programming that caters to them ? That's where Dish LATINO from Dish Network comes into the picture. This package offers programming almost entirely in the Spanish-language, making it perfect for those that have not yet fully mastered English.

During my high school years I took Spanish for almost the entirety of my years there, and because of that I have a rather good grasp of Spanish. Dish LATINO is definately a programming package that I can see myself subscribing to if I were a Dish Network subscriber. Channels such as Univision and Telemundo are famous even to people who do not really watch Spanish-language programming on television. I definately enjoy watching the game shows they regularly broadcast on weekends. This is something you don't normally see on standard US television. During my years in France we used to watch them every Friday evening. Definately some good entertainment for the whole family !

For those who also speak English you have the option of having a mixture of Spanish and English programming in the form of Dish LATINO Dos and Dish LATINO Max. As the name suggests, Dish LATINO Max is the package that contains the most amount of channels between the three (including Dish LATINO). All the channels that are comprised in the first two packages can be found in Dish LATINO Max. You, of course, get a little extra.

The other day I found myself watching TV from Colombia (which is available on all three packages). I am an avid salsa music fan so this was definately a great joy for me.

I just wonder why the cable companies don't adopt a similar system, whereby they offer international programming like the satellite tv providers. It seems as though once you are under contract with them then you are stuck - with their somewhat exorbitant rates too !

Learning spanish is one of the biggest challenges I ever took on. It would have been much easier if I had more channels to watch in Spanish.

Studying foreign language is such an undertaking and yet pays off in the end. Promoting various languages through televsion is a great idea!
